2012 WBR Bong and a Half TT Recap II

Richard Bong State Recreation Area is a 4,415 acre managed prairie that contains 8.3 miles of mountain bike trails. It was once designed to be a jet fighter base, but the airbase was abandoned because local citizens wanted to protect this open space for future generations.

Overall average times at the Bong have been getting better the past few years. Could it be due to better equipment, positions, training or new tarmac on the first stretch that's helped? Today, Mother Nature didn't want any part of that, so she decided to bring in the Southwest winds to help slow things down a bit. She was successful because the times were around a minute to a minute and a half slower than last year.

Once again on the men’s side, Jeff Otto (Lamb Little Racing) set the bar high with the fastest time of the day at 38:25.96…two minutes and small change over the next closest competitor. The second fastest time of the day belonged to the Chris Mosora (Scarlet Fire Racing) coming in with a time 40:28.56. Completing the podium and stopping the clock at 40:40.68 was Reed Oliff (Lamb Little Racing).

On the ladies' side, Stacy Mosora (Scarlet Fire Racing) posted the fastest time rolling across the line at 44:00.96. Coming in with the second fastest time was Leigh Thompson (Vision Quest) with a time of 44:56.97. Lauren Jensen (Tri Fasters) completed the women’s overall podium with a time of 45:56.88.

A big thanks goes out to Carl Wilkins, Gina Wilkins, Bob Lundberg and Bill Cassidy for putting together another fantabulous MATTS' event.

Richard Bong (US Army Forces fighter pilot) is the United States' highest scoring air ace during World War II. He shot down at least 40 Japanese aircraft and was a recipient of the Medal of Honor.

The next MATTS event is the  WBR Harvard 33.3K Time Trial (MATTS RACE #9) on Sunday, June 3rd, in Kansasville, WI. Here's the link to register for the Harvard 33.3K . After that...MATTS will take us west to the Scarlet Fire 2-Person 40K Team Time Trial (MATTS RACE #10) on Saturday, June 16th, in Garden Prairie, IL. Here's the link to register: TrueSport .

Bob Burke (shown here at the start) put the hammer down in the Masters 60-64 and stopped the clock at an impressive 41:40.920 for the fifth fastest time of the day. Nice job Bob!
