Richard Bong State Recreation Area is a 4,415 acre managed prairie that contains 8.3 miles of mountain bike trails. It was once designed to be a jet fighter base, but the airbase was abandoned because local citizens wanted to protect this open space for future generations. |
Overall average
times at the Bong have been getting better the past few years. Could it be due
to better equipment, positions, training or new tarmac on the first stretch
that's helped? Today, Mother Nature didn't want any part of that, so she
decided to bring in the Southwest winds to help slow things down a bit. She was
successful because the times were around a minute to a minute
and a half slower than last year.
On the ladies'
side, Stacy Mosora (Scarlet Fire Racing) posted the fastest time rolling across
the line at 44:00.96. Coming in with the second fastest time was Leigh

A big thanks goes
out to Carl Wilkins, Gina Wilkins, Bob Lundberg and Bill Cassidy for putting
together another fantabulous MATTS' event.
Richard Bong (US Army Forces fighter pilot) is the United States' highest scoring air ace during World War II. He shot down at least 40 Japanese aircraft and was a recipient of the Medal of Honor.
